TO BE stands for Trans, Sexual Orientation, and BIPoC Excellence.
BIPoC Excellence, a term used to refer to qualities and community contributions that promote individual and community pride and wellness, has been the often overlooked foundation for gender and sexual minority communities. The name “TO BE” honours the contributions of Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour in the history and ongoing story of gender and sexual diversity in this world. TO BE also refers to the verb “to be,” a verb that can refer to a temporary state (such as “to be hungry”) or to an internal trait (such as “to be Two Spirit”). Both these uses of the verb “to be” are relevant and important to the focus of the TO BE Program, as outlined below.
Overview
The TO BE Program will be an online, community-based, individual and group mental health program for sexual and gender minorities (SGMs). The program will run on a monthly cohort model, with a new mental health topic announced each month. Most monthly groups will focus on intersectional minority stress and resilience.
The program will represent a partnership between mental health clinicians and SGM-focused community organizations.
The goals of the TO BE Program are:
Your generous donation will help our TO BE Program reach someone who otherwise could not afford it. Choose the amount you donate, from $5 to $1,000 or anything in between.
The Program will run on a not-for-profit model, meaning all funds will be re-invested into the Program. As much as possible the program will be funded through sponsors and community-based partnerships. We would love your help in bringing this program to the community!
